Why the New Facebook Subscribe Button will Change How you Use Facebook

For a long while I thought that Twitter would be the one taking cues from Facebook, however the exact opposite has happened. With the new Facebook Subscribe button Facebook has taken one great leap toward making Twitter obsolete… maybe.

Subscribe buttons work in much the same way that Follows work on Twitter. Once someone decides to subscribe to a Facebook user, they will receive status updates, photo updates, and all other updates available on Facebook in their news feed. Right, so this is sounding a lot like the newsfeed updates we’re already receiving.

Not quite. Facebook added clever features to the button that allows subscribers to choose what type of updates they wish to receive. Features include opting in to receive all user updates, only important user updates, event updates, game updates, etc. The option really helps subscribers weed out all of the information they really don’t care about. Because let’s be honest, sometimes you really only want to read the important stuff and not the mundane day-to-day posts. Facebook Reduces Amount of Emails Sent to Users

Today I received a message from Facebook telling me that they are trying to cut down on the amount of emails they send to users. Now, emails will be coming in batches opposed to one at a time. Here is the message from Facebook.

Are Likes Important? Facebook Engagement Statistics Just Released

Facebook engagement statistics can be hard to come by. Recently, Constant Contact released a studying listing the latest engagement information on Facebook. The result is some really interesting information.

This data provdided by Constant Contact was taken from 1,491 consumers age 18 or older in the United States through an online panel conducted by Research Now.

Time Spent on Facebook

  • 52% of Americans over the age of 18 spend at least 1 hour a week on Facebook.
  • Only 25% of Americans have never used Facebook.
  • 12% of American’s under 35 have never used Facebook.
  • More than 23% of Americans in all ages spend an average of 1 to 5 hour a week on Facebook. Continue Reading
