SEO Friday: Link Roundup

It’s Friday! And you know what that means! It’s time for another round of SEO links from around this great World Wide Web. It’s the MO of the online world, but this week seemed just as hectic as last in terms of SEO / PPC / Social media Management news, and we got all the good stuff for you in one easy spot. So sit back, relax, drink a cup of coffee, and spend a couple minutes playing catch up with the SEO world courtesy of your friends here at SEO, Inc.

Link Roundup

Last week, we talked about guest blogging networks slowly going the way of the buffalo. These poor networks were set up to help sites across the board with their content needs. They weren’t out to hurt anyone. Guest blogging sites just gave freelance writers something to do. However, there is some gray area as to why sites are getting dinged for using guest bloggers. Sure, the content is there, but if it’s irrelevant to the website, there is a chance Google will take notice, and in certain cases, penalize your entire site for the use of guest blogging measures.

You ever wake up from a less-than-savory night out on the town only to sign into Facebook and see a few compromising photos with you lovingly tagged by your friends? We all know this shock or know someone that has experienced this, no? It’s not a good feeling, especially if you’re friends with coworkers, bosses, family members, and anyone else you might not want seeing you mainlining tequila and lighting a bus on fire. (What? That didn’t happen. Swear it wasn’t me.) Well if you were worried about this happening to you on Facebook (again), rest easy… Because now Twitter is getting into the action. Yes, Twitter now allows users to tag people in photos. Is it a measure to make sure we all act like adults now?

Dont Tag me Bro

Are you new to AdWords? Do you just need a refresher? Maybe you just want a huge list of exactly what the different types of Google Adwords are and what they mean. You’re in luck. If you ever had a question, we’re pretty sure you’ll get them answered with this super comprehensive list.

Now onto the topic of landing pages… You think you have a pretty good handle on what it takes to create a sweet landing page? Maybe you do, and maybe you don’t. Hubspot does a decent job here of debunking a good number of the myths surrounding landing pages and could quite possibly blow everything you thought you knew out of the water.

In a stroke of absolute advertising genius, the powerhouse of social media and fast food that is Taco Bell has released possibly one of the best commercials ever to promote its new breakfast offerings. While McD’s might have once stood at the forefront of the “fast-food breakfast” option, the Bell is upping its game with an ad that is not-so-deliberate-yet-way-over-the-top-deliberate to sway customers to eating waffle tacos for breakfast versus McAnythings. Ronald McDonalds from around the country agree…

While we have you here, how is your brand doing on Facebook? Are you getting the “Likes” you want and the engagement you desire? If so, you can always do a little better, probably. (This isn’t to say you’re not doing a bang up job, but there is always room for improvement in the world of Social Media.) Take a second and read about some of the tactics used by the top brands on Facebook. Hopefully something here will get you inspired to move your social presence into the next realm.

And finally, it seems Matt Cutts got a little perturbed again this week by, you guessed it, the selling of links (and the flaunting of it on Twitter). Kudos to Cutts for the use of the evil eye via Tweet. So much is expressed in such a tiny Tweet.

That does it for this week. Stay tuned to the SEO Blog for some exciting news coming down the pipeline next week.

We leave you with the immortal words of Mr. Garth Algar:

OK… First I’ll access the secret military spy satelite that is in geosynchronous orbit over the midwest. Then I’ll ID the limo by the vanity plate “MR. BIGGG” and get his approximate position. Then I’ll reposition the transmission dish on the remote truck to 17.32 degrees east, hit WESTAR 4 over the Atlantic, bounce the signal back into the aerosphere up to COMSAT 6, beam it back to SATCOM 2 transmitter number 137 and down on the dish on the back of Mr. Big’s limo… It’s almost too easy.
