Google’s 200 Ranking Factors

You’ve heard of Google. It’s that thing of when you search online, and you only use one method to search, and that method is usually just to Google something. Yeah, that Google. Well, did you know that over a billion people use Google search each month? And the total of these billion people search Google 114 billion times? You read that right. 114 billion searches. A MONTH. There are only 61,269 pizzerias in the United States. (Not sure of the comparison, but that billion figure is impressive, right?)

At any rate, given that Google is the preferred search engine, owning almost 70% of the search engine market share, it leaves us in the Internet Marketing world needing to know how we can rank at the top of these searches. And that means understanding exactly what Google is looking for. Google hasn’t exactly made this an easy feat either, what with the search engine changing things constantly, updating algorithms, penalizing sites, etc.

While Google ranking factors have never publicly listed all of the elements they take into account, there are about 200 to 600 ranking factors they say they use for search rankings. Instead of listing these 200 Google ranking factors and risk boring you to death, we turn to the creative folks at Single Grain and Backlinko, who put together one of the most extensive iconographic we have ever seen.

You might want to print this out and hang it somewhere handy so that you can refer to it over and over. Because let’s face it, you’re probably going to have to.
