Topsy Analytics Tool for Tracking Twitter

Topsy is a new Twitter analytic tool that provides valuable insight into the level of conversation surrounding certain keywords on the social media site. Topsy Twitter analytics allow you to track mentions of your domain name, Twitter name or any keyword on Twitter. In each of these categories you can add up to three pieces of competing data. Here is an example of the Topsy Twitter analytics tool graph comparing three keywords over the last two weeks. Those keywords are SEO, Social Media and Facebook.

Here we can see that Facebook has clearly been mentioned much more than SEO and social media. Not surprising as Facebook has been the headline of almost every news story recently, further emphasized by the recent CNN special titled, the Facebook obsession. By the way if you haven’t seen the Facebook obsession you should check it out; it gets good around the 23rd minute of the segment.

Now let’s take a look at a comparison of products mentioned in the same industry using the Topsy Twitter analytic tool. Let’s try products Bud Light, Miller Light and Coors Light.

As we can see Bud Light has been dominant over the two week period. Coors Light has the second most mentions and Miller Light has been discussed much less than the other two.

Another interesting element of the Topsy Twitter analytic tool is the link analysis component. With this tool, we can also see top links in the past 24 hours. This means that we can see how many times a certain piece of content (Tweet) was mentioned, how influential it was and its momentum. None of these metrics are very well explained unfortunately – the tool is still new.
