How to Get your Google+ Page Ranked in Google+ Direct Connect

If you don’t know about Google+ Direct Connect is please take a second to read about it. Now that you have done that, we would like to introduce it as yet another thing to integrate into your social media strategy and really Internet marketing strategy in general.  Getting your Google+ Business Page featured in Google+ Direct Connect can generate traffic and increase your Google+ following.

How to Get Listed in Google+ Direct Connect

The Google+ Direct Connect search engine presents a whole new SEO tactic. Luckily, the rules of this optimization tactic are a little simpler that that of a full scale typical search engine optimization project (at least they seem that way at this point). Google+ Direct Connect optimization is based on similar characteristics to internal Facebook search engine optimization. Let us explain.

Google+ Business PagesAccording to Google, “A page’s eligibility for Google+ Direct Connect is determined algorithmically, based on certain signals we use to help understand your page’s relevancy and popularity.”

Now when Google states relevancy and popularity as factors we can assume that they are specifying metrics such as number of Google+ Business page followers and number of relevant circles the page is added to, as well as page title and overall page to search term optimization.

As an added factor, Google mentions that they also look for a link between your Google+ page and your website. This is smart of them right? They are basically forcing the entire internet to link to their Google+ Business Page profile. Hey, if I were at Google I would do it.

Google states, “In addition to this analysis, we look for a link between your Google+ page and your website. To help Google associate this content, be sure to connect your Google+ page and your website using the Google+ badge, or by adding a snippet of code to your site, in addition to adding your website link to your page.”

This new search engine opens up a whole new can of worms. We have all seen how poor the Facebook search engine performs at this point and it uses similar metrics for ranking. That being the case, all businesses are going to want to be listed here, especially the bigger brands. Smart social media marketing and SEO companies will be jumping in, setting up pages and connecting to their client’s websites (as well as their own :)) early to get top rankings before competition stiffens.

As a side note, Google+ Business Pages are going to have implications for online reputation management. I mean, who wouldn’t want two ore more Google+ Business listings on the first page of their branded search results? That leaves a lot less room for negative comments!
