SEO News Update: Google to Reward Mobile-Friendly Websites

It’s just as we predicted. The first of our 2015 SEO optimization predictions are happening.

On Thursday, Google revealed its plans to reward mobile-friendly websites. Two significant changes to mobile are coming down the pipelines.

And they could change your site rankings from here on out.

Mobile-Friendly Websites Will Rank Better in Mobile Search

Starting April 21st, Google has announced that they will begin “expanding [their] use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal.” Stating their dedication to “relevant” and “timely” search results for its users, Google is acknowledging an increasingly widespread use of people using mobile devices to access the internet.

Mobile friendly websites are already a staple part of your new SEO services. But now you have a huge incentive to convert website to mobile.

Adding mobile-friendly labels was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to rewarding websites with a focus on mobile. But we have to give it up for Google for their generosity. This news is a significant heads-up that may impact the way businesses prioritize their mobile-friendly web design.

And what’s more, Google is giving you the tools you need to do it. Google suggests taking these essential steps to “make sure you are mobile ready”:

  1. Use their mobile testing tool.
  2. Have a clean webmaster tools usability report.
  3. Follow their guidelines.

These changes being implemented on a worldwide scale and will have “a significant impact in our search results.” We can expect great things from having mobile-friendly websites.

App Indexing Will Provide Better Rankings

As if better rankings for a mobile-friendly view weren’t enough, Google is also going to reward apps that are indexed. They have revealed that this will be a ranking factor as long as users are signed in and have the app installed on their device.

App indexing may not have the immediate “gee-whiz” factor of mobile-friendliness, but this is pretty revealing news. In their blog post, Google has flat-out stated how important app indexing is to provide a good search experience, saying that they “may now surface content from indexed apps more prominently.”

Who knows? Maybe with this news, we’ll start seeing an increased focus on app development as part of the best SEO services package.
