Facebook Reduces Amount of Emails Sent to Users

Today I received a message from Facebook telling me that they are trying to cut down on the amount of emails they send to users. Now, emails will be coming in batches opposed to one at a time. Here is the message from Facebook.

Hi John,

We’re trying out a new feature to reduce the amount of email you receive from Facebook. Starting today, we are turning off most individual email notifications and instead, we’ll send you a summary only if there are popular stories you may have missed.

You can turn individual emails back on and restore all your original settings at any time.

This is an interesting move by Facebook. Continual email notifications are an excellent way to attract people back to a website. While this is the case, I can see where they are coming from. I have been a LinkedIn user for a long time and the amount of emails that site generates to my inbox can be horrendous if not managed correctly. Facebook can be the same way for those who do not take the time to manage email settings. Facebook must be speculating that less is more in this case.
