Facebook as had a search engine for a long time. But the idea of this search engine competing with a Google or a Bing has always seemed far, far away. I don’t know why, they have the resources. I guess we just didn’t feel like they had the will.
Well on September 11, 2012, Mark Zuckerberg came out and said that Facebook is doing a billion searches per day, “and we’re not even trying.” He also said “Search engines are evolving” to “giving you a set of answers.” And that, “Facebook is pretty uniquely positioned to answer a lot of questions people have.”
Based on these responses by Zuckerburg it seemed that they must be working on search.
“At some point we’ll do it,” he went on. “We have a team working on search.”
