  • Common Issues

Problem: It doesn't seem to work in Vista.

The only workaround right now is to deselect "Enable Protected Mode" which can be accessed by Tools >> Internet Options >> Security Tab.

Problem: I get an error returned from the Installer while trying to install the toolbar.

Verify that you have the latest version of MSI installed (this will be up to date if you use automatic updates from Microsoft) and you have the .NET Framework installed of version at least 1.1.4322. For further help, email all errors/messages to conrad@seoinc.com

Problem: The toolbar doesn't show up on IE 7 or, when I select the toolbar it doesn't show up, or I can't move the toolbar around.

If you have SEO Toolbar version 1.x installed previously and you have an out of date install file, this issue can arise. It occurs from the toolbars sharing the same component which needed to be updated for IE 7. Make sure you have the latest version of the SEO Toolbar v2.0 install file which can be retrieved from http://www.seoinc.com/seo-toolbar/. Also, prior to trying to move the toolbar, verify that "Lock the Toolbars" is deselected when you right click on IE (where the toolbars are).

    How do I?

    Q. How do I use the toolbar?

    A. For most of its functions, visit a site you want information about and select the data you want such as Engine Data, Ranking, etc.

    Q. How do I edit the query strings for custom searches?

    A. You can:

    • Select Menu, Select Options, Click "Search Engine Query String Builder" and customize via the form
    • Edit the Toolbar_Config.xml file directly. It's just an XML text file. If you're comfortable doing this, this is a simple solution

    Q. Ah! I tried editing my Toolbar_Config.xml file and now my toolbar isn't working. You said it was simple!

    A. Delete Toolbar_Config.xml and restart IE. This will grab a fresh version from one of our servers

    Q. Where is Toolbar_Config.xml located?

    A. If you're using the latest install from the website, it is located in %WINDRIVE%/Program Files/SEO Inc/SEO Toolbar v2.0/Seo_Toolbar. If you're using an older version, it is located in C:/Seo_Toolbar. We recommend you use the latest build at all times.
