5 Simple SEO Strategies your Website will be Thankful for

2008 Nov 26th

Don’t Let Your Site Get Caught In A Turkey Shoot

Ah… Thanksgiving, a time of year when I so willingly gorge myself on a massive golden bird proportionate to a mini fridge, mountains of Stove Top stuffing, bowls full of cranberry sauce flowing like the salmon of Capistrano, finally to be washed down by copious amounts of the finest boxed wine imaginable. But there’s nothing more recognized during this harvest festival than sharing. I only feel it’s appropriate to share with you a few helpful tips on how to successfully optimize the online presence of your website.

Sphinn: ‘Spin’ Or ‘Sfinn’?

2008 Nov 20th

A wiser man than myself once said “It’s not what you say, but how you say it.” If that’s the case, we really need to get to the bottom of this ‘Sphinn’ mystery.

Not familiar with Sphinn? If you’re interested in search marketing, it would be a good idea to introduce yourself to this wonderful website. According to their webpage, Sphinn is “a social site for search and interactive marketers. It’s designed to allow you to share and discover news stories, read and take part in discussions, discover events of interest and network with others.” In other words, it’s basically like Digg, but for search marketing. You can find all sorts of popular news on search marketing, social media, online marketing, etc.

Just like any other business, here at SEO inc, we’re always looking to expand. Earlier in the month, we put up an ad for an opening we have. Whether the applicant is human, zombie or undead, we give all applicants equal consideration.

Bizarro SEO: Top 5 Rules for Writing Bad SEO Content

2008 Oct 9th

Anyone who knows at least a little about SEO knows the “old” adage: “Content is King” (in the Internet world anything over 10 years = old). Basically, quality content will get your site more recognition from search engines and users. But what if you live with Bizarro Superman, Wonderzarro, Bizarro Flash, The Yellow Lantern and Batzarro the world’s worst detective (my personal favorite) on Htrae, and you DON’T want your website to get traffic?

The answer is simple. In Bizarro World you would write bad SEO content. Here are the top 5 rules in the Bizarro Code for writing bad SEO content:

5. Use as many different keywords as possible.

On Earth SEO writers only use 3-5 keywords or keyword terms per page of content. But on Htrae they use as many different keywords as possible on one page. This will confuse and overwhelm search engines, making them less likely to attribute any of your web pages to one particular keyword.

Bizarro SEO: The 5 best ways to get banned

2008 Sep 29th

There are many, many ways of improving a websites search engine rankings. When approaching a subject like SEO, that is fairly complicated somewhat and confusing, it is best to start out with what not to do & work from there.

#5. Hidden Text & Keyword Stuffing

The rational:

We can show the search engines a bunch of keywordy content and camouflage or hide it so that our users won’t have to be bothered with it!Red and Green Chameleon

How they will catch you:

Someone will tell on you. At this point there are just too many ways to hide text from users for the search engines to be able to detect it, so they rely on your competition to snitch on you, and snitch they will.

Bizarro SEO: 5 Sure-Fire Ways to Not Rank in the Search Engines

2008 Sep 23rd

Following the Bizarro theme that kicked off in August, I was thinking to myself – “Self, what’s more bizarre than not wanting to RANK?”   Here are 5 sure-fire ways to not rank in Google, Yahoo!, MSN, and the thousands of other search engines:

1.  Robots.txt

The robots.txt file is the first file that a spider looks for when crawling a site.  This file provides the robots with a specific set of instructions to follow.  If you don’t want to rank, this is the fastest and most effective way to block a whole site (or just a directory) from the search engines.
