Why Navigation is Important to Search Engine Optimization

Share

There are a lot of different aspects of search engine optimization and Internet marketing which are difficult. However, one which often strikes the world as exceedingly challenging is refining site navigation and structure. While this is the case, many of us SEO experts relish the opportunity, viewing the task as a rubix’s cube like assignment with a drastically visible impact on a websites bottom-line, in a variety of different ways.

Here is an example of a navigation in its most basic form. Hub level 1 filters into hub level 2. Hub level 2 filters into hub level 3. Each of the lower levels support the higher levels from a linking perspective. The lines are indicative of potential cross linking relationships, the implementation of which would be assessed on a site by site basis.

SEO Inc. Takes Search Engine Strategies SF by Storm!

Share

search-engine-strategies-san-francisco-drawingFor those of you who follow the SEO Inc. blog (the blog you are on right now), you know that we went to Search Engine Strategies (SES) San Francisco last week. Here is a quick list of how it all went down.

  1. Great Speakers
  2. Good Food
  3. Met Lots of People in the Industry
  4. People Love the SEO Inc. Booth Girl
  5. A Massive Prize was Given Away

I’d like to focus on the last two items on this list if that is OK…

So the gorgeous booth girl, or the very nice women dressed in a boxing type Halloween costume, was there to promote our special giveaway (and our search engine optimization, social media marketing and reputation management services of course). What was the giveaway you ask? How about hotel accommodations, and tickets to a boxing match in good old Las Vegas! For those of you who are boxing fans, the tickets are to the Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Rafael Marquez fight. The fight was actually recently postponed. You can read about that here.

During the event we collected cards. Then, at 2:00pm sharp on Tuesday, August 17th, we announced the winner. The buzz around the giveaway was really something special. You could tell that everyone in the crowd was really hoping to win. We pulled the first card and the winner wasn’t there to claim the prize. We then pulled the second. No one there to win, again! But the third time was the charm!

How to Create a Company Social Media Policy

Without a clear social media policy protecting your company you could be putting yourself at risk. By developing clear guidlines you can save HR social media concerns. Here are some reasons why you should consider creating a policy for social media and Internet usage.

Don’t let Employees Waste Time: When a social media policy is not created, often times employees will spend hours upon hours browsing social media sites. The last thing that you want is to lose those man hours.

Protect Internal Information: Many times if it is not directly expressed to employees, employees may feel that it is OK to discuss company information online. In some cases this can lead to BIG trouble.

Is Twitters Growth Limited by Character Count?

Will Twitter be Held Back by Their Character Count?

Will Twitter be Held Back by Their Character Count?

One of the draws of Twitter is its appeal from a micro blogging perspective, i.e., in order to create a post you don’t have to write too much, just 140 characters. But could it be that this short term advantage could be a long term failure?

What other successful sites online have a word count this short? Not many…

While this is true, there are other character limited communication mediums on the market which are successful. Text Messaging only allows a limited amount of characters on many phones for instance. Additionally, some Instant Messaging software limits character count. But overall, it seems that the best software, platforms, social media sites, etc. are unlimited in their capabilities, not constrained by tight word counts.
