hakia.com Tool for Microsoft Internet Explorer Debuts

New York, New York - August 10, 2007 - A new tool from meaning-based search engine, hakia.com, has been developed for Microsoft Internet Explorer. According to the company, the hakia ScoopBar is the first web search tool that automatically highlights the relevant text in response to searches.

When the tool locates the text by scrolling directly to that portion of the web page, this feature eliminates the arduous task of ''double searching, whereby a user typically opens a page and then has to manually search through that Web page and multiple occurrences of keywords in a document for the desired answer. This detection of relevant search information is now faster and more effective than today's common practice of merely identifying multiple keywords within a page.

In addition, the ScoopBar's "Scoop 'n Save" feature is a quick way to capture (scoop) the relevant section of a web page and save it on the user's local computer. The saved results are accumulated in a local hakiaResults.html page (or on another page as defined by the user) and are easily accessible for future use as a research companion.

The hakia ScoopBar is only possible through hakia's innovative semantic search technology. A Mozilla Firefox version will be available in the Fall of 2007.

Dr. Riza C. Berkan, Founder and CEO of hakia.com offered, "When most people search, they have to search and search again through a results page to find the relevant text. The automated sequence of highlighting, positioning, and scooping saves researchers a great deal of time. We are cutting the work of search in half. The hakia ScoopBar reflects our mission to offer web searchers the unique benefits of semantic search technology, and this is a great example of how the future of web search will look. We will continue our search for better search, and offer web searchers our findings."

Founder of hakia, Dr. Berkan is a nuclear scientist by training with a specialization in artificial intelligence and fuzzy logic. He is the author of several articles in this area, including the book Fuzzy Systems Design Principles, published by IEEE in 1997. Between 1990 and 2000, Dr. Berkan worked as a subcontractor to the US Government and handled multiple Lockheed Martin Energy Systems and Westinghouse projects involving the Y-12 Plant, Savannah River Plant, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dr. Berkan holds a B.S. in Physics from Hacettepe University, Turkey and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence.

Founded in 2004, hakia developed its first meaning-based search engine, utilizing a new infrastructure, designed to deliver the most relevant search results. The company is privately held and based in New York City.
