  • 12/18/2006 - Google Partners with GoDaddy, eNom, to Provide Domain Names

Mountain View, California - December 18, 2006 - Google is entering the domain name marketplace, to provide its users with domain registration services, under a new platform, with domain registrars, eNom and GoDaddy.com.

Designed to allow organizations the ability to offer tools such as email and shared calendaring, when a new domain is registered as part of the sign-up process for Google Apps for Your Domain, eNom and GoDaddy will automatically work with all of the services available through the program. In addition, the user will maintain full control of domain settings, so that it can be used for other services not provided by Google to all of users, all hosted by Google, with no hardware or software to install or maintain.

So exactly what impact will Google's move into domain names have on the domain name and web hosting industries? Cheap Web Hosting Directory contacted an elite group of web hosting and domain name professionals to get their initial reactions to the Google domain name announcement.

Google is offering domains for $10 per year, which includes private registration to protect your personal information, supporting .com, .org, .net, .biz, .info, with additional domains to be added over time.

Google Apps for Your Domain includes Gmail web email, Google Calendar shared calendaring, Google Talk instant messaging, Google Page Creator web page creation tools, and the Start Page feature for creating a personalized home page for users on the domain.

Google's innovative search technologies connect millions of people around the world with information every day. Founded in 1998 by Stanford Ph.D. students Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google today is a top web property in all major global markets. Google's targeted advertising program provides businesses of all sizes with measurable results, while enhancing the overall web experience for users. Google is headquartered in Silicon Valley with offices throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
