10/09/2006 - AOL, MySpace, Rolling Stone, Featured on Search Engine for VideoEl Segundo, California - Search Engine Optimization Inc Search Engine Optimization Firm ) - October 9, 2006 - PureVideo Networks, publisher of user-generated and original content, has released its first utility. PureVideo Search, still in beta, according to the company, is the Internet's first meta search engine utility for video. Combining the accuracy of a crawl-based search, with the timeliness of a feed-based search, PureVideo Networks' proprietary analysis endeavors to determine rankings, displaying each result with an associated thumbnail image and a link to view the video at the respective publisher site.
The operator of popular video sites StupidVideos.com (comedy) and GrindTV.com (action sports), with PureVideo Search, has allowed access to more than 35 charts presenting some of the most popular videos on the top sites, concerning music, sports, comedy, viral videos, entertainment, and news. The sites include MySpace, Rolling Stone, AOL Music, ESPN, Fox Sports, Comedy Central, YouTube, Break.com, CNN, BusinessWeek, and others. The charts provide users with comprehensive coverage on hot topics and the chance for serendipitous discovery.
Greg Morrow, President and Co-founder of PureVideo Networks remarked, ''We quickly learned that users would devour and create more video content than any one site could categorize or publish. Existing options for discovering video or searching for specific footage are simply not that good. We've taken the best ideas of Web search coupled with the best ideas we've learned as a video publisher, to create this very user-friendly search engine.''
Part of a wider strategy to diversify the parent company's offering in video, PureVideo Search represents just one of many new ventures PureVideo Networks is considering for the future. Erik Hawkins, CEO and Co-founder of PureVideo Networks added, ''Our strategy has been to leverage the best of two emerging online video business models - video utility and video publishing. Utilities, especially free ones, are powerful traffic aggregators, while published and programmed media destinations retain consumers and generate revenue. By combining the two, we've opened the gateway for traffic while maintaining our ability to offer value to our audience and our big brand advertising partners.''
Both GrindTV.com and StupidVideos.com will take advantage of the PureVideo Search engine to help power broader web search returns for their combined six million unique users. PureVideo Search will also provide PureVideo Networks with important trend data about broadband video consumption. This reporting will help drive future strategic thinking around content, product, and business development, as well as investment in future content verticals and utilities.
Based in El Segundo, California, PureVideo Networks is a leading publisher of user-generated and original content, dedicated to the promotion of compelling video and the people who produce it. Funded by Softbank Capital, the Company owns and operates video websites StupidVideos.com and GrindTV.com, which stream a combined 60 million videos to six million unique visitors a month. Announced in October as part of a wider strategy to offer PureVideo Networks' back-end technology to the public, the Company launched its first web utility, PureVideo Search (www.purevideo.com), the Internet's first meta search engine for video.
